Developers Threaten El Dorado County – We Must Stand Strong

The fight to protect Deer Valley has entered a new phase. The developers behind the proposed Native Directions/HomeCA/6beds.org facilities have hired a San Francisco law firm and are threatening to sue El Dorado County unless the County issues permits and skips environmental review. They’ve given the County a deadline of September 19.

Why This Matters

These projects are planned for rural residential parcels that simply cannot handle them:

  • Wildfire danger: not enough safe evacuation routes.
  • Traffic: narrow roads not designed for heavy use.
  • Water and septic: already limited, not built for large-scale facilities.
  • Community fit: these are neighborhoods, not commercial zones.

It is obvious that these projects don’t belong here.

What We’re Doing

Rescue Deer Valley has submitted a detailed response to the Board of Supervisors before their September 16 closed session (LINK). We are reminding them of our community’s testimony, the legal flaws in the developers’ claims, and most importantly, the serious safety risks to residents and patients.

What May Come Next

If the developers continue to push, this fight may head to the courts. That means Rescue Deer Valley will need to be ready to fund our own legal challenge if these projects are allowed to move forward. This could be a long and costly battle, and we will need the full support of our community.

How You Can Help Now

  1. Write to Your Supervisors – Thank them for standing firm so far, let them know you are watching closely, and tell them to keep saying “No” to projects that don’t fit our community.
    • Supervisor Lori Parlin (District IV): lori.parlin@edcgov.us
    • Board of Supervisors (all districts): edc.cob@edcgov.us
  2. Stay Informed – We’ll update you after the closed session.
  3. Be Ready – If this turns into a legal battle, we’ll ask for your help to raise the funds needed to protect our community in court.

Closing Thought

We support safe and appropriate facilities for those in need, but they must be built in safe locations that match their scale. Deer Valley Road / Rescue is not that place, and we urge our Supervisors to continue standing firm.

Thank you for standing with us. Together, we can protect future patients, our homes, our safety, and our community.
