Latest Status – July 2024

In the last few weeks we held a meeting with key elected officials, and HomeCA/NDI met with Supervisor Parlin. Both meetings point toward positive momentum for stringent reviews of community and patient safety prior to any permits being granted.

Elected Official Discussion

On July 18th a few representatives from Rescue Deer Valley and Concerned Citizens of the Tri-Communities (Facebook Group Link) met with Assemblymember Joe Patterson, Supervisor Parlin, Sherrif Jeff Leikauf (bio), and a representative from Senator Alvarado-Gil’s office. Our key request to these officials was to work with the State Departments funding these facilities to get them moved to more appropriate locations or stopped altogether. The Senator and Assemblymember both sit on the Health Committee in the State Legislature and have influence on funds and activities for the Department of Health Care Services and Department of Social Services. While all of these elected officials have publicly stated concerns (as shown on the project timeline), we wanted to request more direct action. While nothing can be promised, we feel this discussion was positive, and we were all impressed that each of these officials arrived fully prepared for our discussion and supported our general concerns. Our community voice is definitely being heard. Watch this space for any future progress from this discussion.

Meeting – HomeCA/NDI and Supervisor Parlin

Also in the last few weeks, HomeCA setup a meeting with Supervisor Parlin to discuss her, and EDC’s concerns regarding miscommunications and these developments. The Supervisor posted some meeting minutes from that discussion here. From our reading of this it seems likely that HomeCA will be required to complete a comprehensive CEQA review, as requested in the last EDC communication to HomeCA/Native Directions (link).

This protest will continue to take time and consistent public effort. If you hear of anything, or just have any general questions on what we are doing, please send us a note through the “Contact Us” form on this website. Thanks for staying involved, and please continue to voice your concerns to our elected officials at any opportunity!
