First off, we are overwhelmed by the community support we have seen over the last few days as word has spread about this planned development. Our petition, on change.org, has grown to nearly 500 supporters, as of this moment! Thank you!!
As we have watched the dialogue on social media, it has emphasized that we must stay fact-based as we discuss this situation. It is easy to become emotional. My property is right next door to one of the planned facilities, so I know how easy it is to digress into emotional feelings about the situation. The facts speak for themselves, so let’s keep the dialogue respectful, and fact based.
We just realized that change.org will solicit money from people who sign our petition. This money does NOT help this cause, it only serves to help pay for change.org expenses. This is our first time putting together a public effort like this and change.org never explains that they will ask our supporters for money. We feel tricked. If you really want to donate money to help this effort, then please do so through our GoFundMe on this website.
The most important thing you can do to help stop this development is to write our county and state leaders. Community voices drive attention, and hopefully, solutions, with these elected officials. We will need the county as an ally to help ensure that community impacts are fully assessed, and mitigated, if this development goes forward. Your email doesn’t need to be perfect, and even if you opinion isn’t directly aligned with everything on this website, let these folks know how you feel about this.
